We didn’t switch from Fullbay. We read the reviews and built our own instead.
That’s the honest version. We’ve never run Fullbay, or Shopmonkey, or Tekmetric, or AutoLeap, in our own shop. When we went looking for software, we saw a lot of shop owners complaining about different things, such as bills that climb every time you add a user, contracts that renew before you can get out, years of records stuck when you try to leave, and paying extra just to move your old data over. We decided it wasn’t worth our time to chase that down. So we built something instead.
The short version
We run a truck shop. We couldn’t find software that matched how we actually worked, so we built our own, for our own shop, in house. A couple of friends in the same line of business asked what we were using, tried it, loved it, and told us to take it to market. That’s the whole story.
This page is the comparison we wish existed back when we were the ones shopping. Every price and feature below comes straight from their own public pages, checked September 27, 2026. Where they don’t publish a number, it says so instead of guessing. The customer quotes come from public review sites, and each one says where.
What a 5-person shop pays
Fullbay doesn’t show its prices on its website. Their FAQ says they charge per user and per shop location, and you get your number from a sales rep. One of their customers put it this way back in 2020: “paying to add a user and everything you go to add costs more per month and results in a high monthly bill.” [5]
Ours is on the page: $179.99 a month for the shop, everybody in.

One quiet fact that doesn’t fit a table row: your data lives on two clouds, run by two different companies, every shop’s data sits in its own isolated database, backups get restored every month to prove they work, and every change is logged.
Where Diesel Genie isn’t your software yet
No two-way texting, no maintenance reminders, and no customer portal yet. They’re coming. But if any one of those three is a must-have for your shop today, we’re not your software yet, and we’d rather tell you straight now than after you’ve moved your data over. Everything else on this page, we stand behind.
What their own customers say
A Shopmonkey customer, on Capterra“We have just over 5 years’ worth of data essentially stuck in the program.”
That’s why you can export everything from Diesel Genie, anytime, even if you quit paying.
An AutoLeap customer, on Software Advice“they wont let me leave the contract even though i’ve made it very clear the system doesnt work for my shop.”
No contract here. Month to month. Leave whenever you want.
A Fullbay customer, on Capterra“It is not equipped for fleet. It is very Customer/shop based.”
Ours was built in a working truck shop, and our biggest customer is a fleet.
Leave anytime, take everything
Shopmonkey’s own pricing page, checked September 27, 2026“Your data belongs to you. If you cancel, we offer temporary account access on a per-request basis if you need to retrieve anything after canceling. To request access or export your data, contact our support team.”
Diesel Genie works the other way. You can export everything, anytime, on your own, even if your account has already lapsed. No support ticket, no per-request approval.
